Kim Beggs, MS, LPC, NCC
In today's hectic society, many families struggle to manage responsibilities and maintain satisfying relationships. Parents often experience stress as they attempt to balance busy work schedules with the demands of raising children. The natural tension between parents and adolescents has been intensified in the 21st century as appropriate technology use becomes an additional battle ground. Parents may question their own judgment about what rules are appropriate for their adolescents who are pushing away in an attempt to figure out their place in the world. In the midst of this "chaos", nurturing the marriage may slip to the bottom of the parents' priority list, resulting in conflict and adding to family stress.
I specialize in all aspects of family counseling with emphasis on healthy communication and divorce prevention. Focus areas include parent education, premarital and marital counseling, communication and conflict resolution, anger management, assertiveness training, and blended family/stepparenting issues. I help adolescents and twenty-somethings who are experiencing challenges with life skills, relationships and transitions to explore their personal, family and career goals. I use the Myers-Briggs personality inventory and other assessments with clients who wish to explore career options and decisions. My treatment orientation is cognitive-behavioral, but I design interventions and provide resources and skills training which are tailored to my clients' individual preferences and strengths. I encourage a collaborative approach and offer clients a non-judgmental atmosphere in which to explore satisfying solutions to current life challenges.
I have a Masters degree in Counseling and Human Relations from Villanova University and a Bachelors degree in Education from Bucknell University. I have completed the Child Sexual Abuse Treatment Certificate Program through Widener University and am trained to help child sexual abuse survivors and those experiencing difficulty dealing with other forms of grief, loss and trauma.
